Events for 29 June 2021 - 27 May 2021

SIAA facilitates many training events, roundtables, and information sharing sessions specifically intended for independent advocacy organisations. These events are member-only and designed to provide you with new skills, build organisational capacity and provide an opportunity for you to share your views on key policy topics relevant to human rights and independent advocacy.

SIAA also run regular online peer support sessions. The peer support sessions are informal opportunities for you to meet colleagues from across the sector, share ideas and provide mutual support. We run sessions for managers and sessions for staff once a month.

SIAA peer support for staff – ‘pause for thought/current priorities’

Online

We will start with a slot for ‘reflective practice’, taking place in small groups, without an SIAA staff member present. This will be followed by a whole-group discussion, facilitated by SIAA staff. We want the topics of our peer support sessions to be member-led and reflect your changing priorities and concerns.

SIAA Peer Support for Managers – ‘supporting staff wellbeing’

Online

SIAA's state of the sector surveys, conducted at the start of 2021, indicated that staff across the sector were keen for managers to prioritise staff wellbeing. The session will focus on sharing what works around supporting staff wellbeing in your organisations, with opportunities for you to share examples and expertise.

SIAA peer support for staff – ‘collective advocacy’

Online

We will start with a slot for ‘reflective practice’, taking place in small groups, without an SIAA staff member present. This will be followed by a whole-group discussion, facilitated by SIAA staff, in which staff can share learning and ideas around collective advocacy, with a focus on how collective advocacy in Scotland has changed since the beginning of the pandemic.

I’ve found the Managers Peer to Peer support sessions invaluable; it feels supportive and safe and as a relatively new CEO it really has helped build my confidence as well as relationships with peers. Thank you.

I have enjoyed the SIAA training events I have attended and I have been able to attend more than I would have in the past due to courses being on zoom etc.

I found it really helpful to be connected to a larger group and to hear the variety of perspectives from others as we all face the impact of the coronavirus on our organisations, people, clients and key stakeholders.
