SIAA Training – Drug Awareness Training
OnlineThis online training aims to increase drug awareness and knowledge and participants will have the opportunity to explore current and emerging trends within substance use.
SIAA facilitates many training events, roundtables, and information sharing sessions specifically intended for independent advocacy organisations. These events are member-only and designed to provide you with new skills, build organisational capacity and provide an opportunity for you to share your views on key policy topics relevant to human rights and independent advocacy.
SIAA also run regular online peer support sessions. The peer support sessions are informal opportunities for you to meet colleagues from across the sector, share ideas and provide mutual support. We run sessions for managers and sessions for staff once a month.

The Communication and Dementia training, led by Age Scotland, will focus on giving you knowledge, tools and strategies to improve communication with people who live with dementia.
The session will be an opportunity for independent advocates from across Scotland to discuss providing independent advocacy within criminal justice settings or to people interacting with the criminal justice system, and to share best practice.
SIAA are holding an information session with The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission (SCCRC) which is the independent body that reviews allegations of miscarriage of justice in Scotland.

SIAA are seeking members views on the Mental Health Law Review's Additional Proposals for changes to mental health and incapacity legislation before a final report is sent to the Scottish Ministers by the end of September 2022. SIAA Training - Responding to Domestic Abuse as an Independent Advocate is designed to provide independent advocates with tools to respond to Domestic Abuse.
The session will be an opportunity for independent advocates to reflect on wellbeing at work and share experiences and ideas.
